bill: we are live from new town connecticut again today. we're waiting an update from the police on the investigation into the tragic mass shooting. the massacre in this small town. as the community grieves the deaths of youngest and most innocent. first of 27 funerals. 6-year-old noah posner and 6-year-old jack pinto. to be laid to rest 1:00 eastern time. it will be aifficult day. i'm bill hemmer live in this special edition of "america's newsroom.". martha: good morning bill in connecticut. i'm martha maccallum in the new york studio. we watched last night an emotional memorial service. hundreds of people packed into the auditorium at newtown high school. president obama meeting first and separately with the families of those who were lost. it must have have been a very difficult meeting for all involved in that room last night. we saw representatives from ail faiths, many faiths taking the stage with a message of hope and reance. >> i know that newtown will prevail it is a defining moment for our town but it will not define us. >> i assure you at beginning of winter i see the

. >> sure. bill: $16 trillion. now to newtown, connecticut, attempted normalcy and so much heartache. schools in the area opening first time since friday's massacre except of course sandy hook elementary which remains closed indefinitely as police continue their investigation there. there are questions whether it will be ever reopen. volunteers in the neighboring town of monroe, seven miles away, hard at work, getting a former middle school ready for sandy hook students. all of this as the grim task of bearing so many young innocents gets underway. 10:00 in the morning funeral services begin for james mattioli. followed by services for jessica reek coast. -- rekos. a rabbi spoke about that service. >> being celebrated as a pure innocent child by the promise of life ahead of him. who brought joy to his family and to his community and who will be sorely missed. as his older brother said he could have been anything if he had grown up. this is tragedy that we have no answers for this. bill: rick leventhal live in new town with this now. do we know anymore details about the killer, rick?

, connecticut. attorney general in arizona, tom horn, offering a proposal that would allow a school principal or another staff member to be trained to use a firearm. his plan would require a change in state law. currently allows only police officers to carry firearms on school grounds. >> we would provide the training in marksmanship, in judgment. there would be simulations, to be sure they're well-trained to handle an emergency. and then they would be able to have a gun at school, locked up in a very secure place. >> i don't want anymore firearms in the school whether it is locked in a safe or trained person to me, in my personal opinion would be safer because they can't be everywhere. >> a normal person not used to the stress of say, a armed gunman may not be able to respond the same way. gregg: if the attorney general's proposal is approved by state lawmakers, participation would be entire tirely optional. patti ann: yet another fiscal cliff concern. the price of milk, if congress doesn't take action before new year's day the price could more than double. dominic di-natale is live in los a
